My donkey trek

Went for a 5hr donkey trek - that was only supposed to last 2hrs.  Saw rural Lamu aka poor Lamu a few snaps:

A slice of beauty

The seashore

Our fishing boat
Manda's sandy beach

Went fishing...

3 or 4 days ago Jeremy and I went fishing in the open sea (not the bay) with our friend Shay and his 2 friends; Micheal and Claude.

The sea was real choppy, however I took it in my stride - I thought the sea was supposed to behave like that (not being being a veteran sea-woman).
The wind blew hard, making 4-5ft waves causing our boat to bob about; akin to an out of control roller-coaster.

I got thoroughly soaked, I stopped screaming after 10 soakings.  I hooked 5 fish, in my excitement 2 got away, 2 were too strong for me to reel in.  I think one might of been a shark and the 5th like the rest ate my bait and scarped.

I put squid bait on my hook a first for me, that didn't increase my luck or knack to actually land a fish.

After fishing we sailed to Manda Island another beautiful slice of paradise, I did a little swimming but spent most of my time looking for shells and coral to bring home to friends I felt would be feeling Mother-nature in this magical land.

Our Captain and his Mate cooked the fish they and Shay caught; red and green snapper, coconut rice, delicious gravy with potatoes.  For desert we tucked into;  bananas, paw-paw, passion fruit, real oranges just like Jamaican ones (not artificial coloured oranges)it was one of the best meals I've ever eaten.

More of my thoughts..

I've been bitten by several mosquito's - its not nice sleeping with one let alone 2 within my netted bed.

I hope by April I will be immune to their bites (I'm trying to view their bites as 'bites of love') ergo my skin will not swell up like the skin of a dodgy orange.  I have the strength not to scratch them most of the time.

I think, I should use the US Army issued 3M anti-mosquito lotion the one Ray Mears endorses - that I collected from Park Royal - one dark and dank evening on my motorbike before I left Blighty....

My Thoughts

I've been in Lamu a month, I keep no awareness of time via a watch or other time-piece, I don't know what day it is or the date.  It's such a wonderful feeling of freedom.

I've meet so many warm, friendly, loving people - they have opened their hearts and homes to me.  I have never done so much socialising as I have in this 1 month - it's equivalent to what I do in a year in London...

I've attended numerous Dinner Parties, 1 Cocktail Party, eaten at several of Jeremy's friends magnificent homes (the type you see in up scale/classy glossy mag, can't name wot mags as I don't read such things).  Eaten at restaurants inside heavenly resorts, on deserted beaches, taken there by speed boat.

To relax, like I've been doing is so welcome to my body, mind, soul, spirit, my overall well-being _ I treasure the serenity i am creating here in Lamu and within me.

I no longer rush around, I talk quieter (most of the time or try to), I take 1 or 2 siesta's in the afternoon, never done this before in all my 40 years. so refreshing.

Out of my Shells

Collecting shells daily
from Shela Beach.

Am I free of the shells
that encased me
in London Town?

The maddening
fast-paced living and being...

cracking the shell
of
 frenetic pace

Creating new shells;
 simply being
questioning
the who, the what, the why.
of me.

Clean Feet...

When I return from walking especially in the sand - I bathe my feet in this large shell, full of water and pretty flowers.  Renson our Steward made the washing of our feet a beautiful thing.

Missing

Don't miss cars

Don't miss the news

Don't miss the 9 to 5

Don't miss the hordes

Don't miss my 2 bikes

Don't miss CCTV cameras

Don't miss feeling cold inside

Don't miss the advertising billboards.

Is it yet or - will it be forever?

Transforming

My skins turning browner.

My teeth a fluorescent white
basing within mahogany skin

Shining in tandem
with the equatorial sun.

Appears I'm wearing satin
dark chocolate gloves and socks

I'm not.

My skins just turning browner

Mr Europe

Mr Europe
comes to town.

Runs riot he has a mighty crown.

Who knows...

Some will fleece
some keep the Peace.

Robin, robin, robin

Say it ain't so - tis the truth;
a rite, a duty to tap

The imagined booty.

Six inna da morning

The beauty I greet and greets me each morn...

My morning walks on Shella beach

It's about 6am - walking bare foot banged my feet on rocks and shells stepped on a spiked branch
screamed - took the offending object from my sole and continued walking
a little more cautiously

Happy on my morning walk.

In my Kikoy

3 weeks in Lamu cont.

Not sure why my 20+ plus photos did not post, gonna try some vids I made of Lamu:

Me on my way by foot to Lamu Town

3 weeks in Lamu

I arrived in Nairobi, Kenya Jan 20th 2012, spent one night there, some of my 1st sights:

Nairobi's National Park

The view from the veranda - where I breakfasted

The Savannah

To see this sight with my own eyes, rather than through a TV was astonishing and astounding
